2011 Recap: Museums and Stadiums

Art and sports are the main theme of my travels in 2011, with mostly art museums and sports events (plus two surfing trips) dominating my calendar for the past year. I also revisited some cities that I have been to previously, namely St. Louis, New York, Singapore and Bangkok.

Museums and Historical Places:
Fort Pilar Museum, Zamboanga City
St. Louis Art Museum, St. Louis
Museum of Westward Expansion, St. Louis
Basilica of St. Louis King of France, St. Louis
Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York
Liberty Island Museum, New York
Ellis Island Immigration Museum, New York
Grand Palace, Bangkok
Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn), Bangkok

Sports Events:
FIFA World Cup Qualifier, Philippine Azkals vs. Sri Lanka
Friendly, Philippine Azkals vs. LA Galaxy
National Basketball Association, NY Knicks vs. Indiana Pacers

Firsts:

There were also several firsts: first time in Kansas, first snow (Overland Park, Kansas), first Mardi Gras (Soullard, St. Louis), first NBA game (Knicks versus Pacers, in Madison Square Garden), first encounter with scam artists in Bangkok, two new airlines to ride (Southwest and Tiger Airways) and first cable car ride (in Sentosa, Singapore).

I also added another supertall - the 304-meter tall Baiyoke II in Bangkok - to the list of skyscrapers and towers that I visited. Other notable events include the lunar eclipse in June, and the beach outing in Laiya, Batangas in May.
